UK Water Hardness: How to Check Your Area
Water hardness is usually reported by your local water company. Knowing your band helps you choose sensible descaling and treatment routines.
Where to look
Start with your water supplier’s postcode checker or published quality report. Search for terms such as hardness, calcium, or total hardness.
Understanding the result
Suppliers may use words such as soft, moderately soft, slightly hard, hard, or very hard. Some publish milligrams per litre as calcium carbonate, while others use degrees of hardness.
Why it matters
Harder water generally means more visible scale and more frequent cleaning. It does not automatically mean the water is unsafe.
