A softener only performs consistently when salt, hygiene, settings and faults are managed according to its instructions.
Use the specified salt
Block, tablet and granular formats are not interchangeable by preference. Use the type and quality specified for the model. Store salt dry and avoid contaminating the brine area.
Check routinely
- Salt level and signs of bridging.
- Unexpected water in the cabinet or overflow.
- Changes in treated-water hardness.
- Correct time, settings or power where applicable.
- Drain and bypass position.
Investigate unusual taste
The DWI notes that incorrectly installed or malfunctioning softeners and filters can cause salty or chemical tastes. If a strong or sudden taste occurs, stop assuming it is normal, check other taps and contact the relevant supplier or professional.
Keep a record
Note salt additions, servicing, faults and hardness checks. A simple record makes changing consumption and performance easier to spot.
