Filter media and systems should be selected by the substance or characteristic they are designed to reduce.
Activated carbon
Carbon is commonly used for chlorine-related taste and odour and some specified organic compounds. Performance depends on media, contact time, flow and the exact test claim.
Sediment filtration
Mechanical cartridges retain particles above a stated size. They do not automatically address dissolved substances, hardness or microbiological risk.
Specialist media
Some cartridges target particular metals or other substances. Verify the stated capacity and test conditions. A broad marketing phrase such as "pure water" is not a technical specification.
Whole-house or point-of-use
Treating all incoming water creates different flow, maintenance and plumbing demands from treating one drinking tap. Place treatment only where the defined outcome requires it.
Replacement is part of performance
Cartridges have finite capacity. Record installation dates and follow replacement and hygiene instructions. An overdue cartridge is not a permanent treatment solution.
